How the UK Media-Buying Brief is researched, written and corrected.

What this publication is

The UK Media-Buying Brief is an independent daily analysis of the UK media market, published by Rebel Spirit Media Group. It is written for people who plan and buy media in the United Kingdom: agency buyers and planners, client-side marketing teams, sales houses, and the operators and regulators they work alongside.

It is a trade publication, not a consumer one. Nothing on this site is an offer, inducement or recommendation to gamble, to open an account with any operator, or to buy any product or service mentioned.

How we source

Every claim in the brief traces to a source we have read, and that source is named in the sentence that carries the claim and linked wherever a free, public link exists. We rely on UK trade press, broadcaster and operator newsrooms, regulators including Ofcom, the Advertising Standards Authority and the Gambling Commission, company announcements, and official government publications.

Where a story originates with another publisher, that publisher is credited and linked. We summarise and analyse their reporting; we do not reproduce it. Copyright in that reporting remains with the publisher who produced it. Quotations are kept short, attributed, and used for the purpose of comment and review. If you are a publisher and believe we have gone beyond that, please contact us and we will deal with it quickly.

Reported, unconfirmed and unverified items

Trade journalism frequently runs ahead of confirmation. We try to be explicit about which is which, and we would rather tell you what we could not establish than fill the gap:

We do not invent facts, figures, quotations or names. If we cannot source a number, we describe the shape of the change instead of estimating one.

Analysis is opinion

The brief carries two different things. Reporting sections set out what was said, published or announced, and by whom. Sections marked as analysis, and the Media buying view at the foot of each brief, are our interpretation of what that means for a UK buyer.

Analysis is opinion, honestly held and openly argued, and it is frequently a judgement call made under time pressure on incomplete information. Reasonable people in this market will disagree with it. It is offered as a view worth arguing with, not as a conclusion to act on unexamined.

Not advice

Nothing in this publication is legal, financial, tax, accounting, investment or regulatory advice, and nothing in it is a substitute for professional advice taken on your own circumstances. The brief regularly discusses tax measures, licensing conditions, advertising codes and regulatory decisions. Those are summarised for a general professional readership and are not a statement of how any rule applies to any particular business.

Commercial decisions — what to commit, when to commit it, and what to tell a client — remain yours. Any action taken on the basis of anything published here is taken on your own commercial judgement and at your own risk. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Rebel Spirit Media Group accepts no liability for loss arising from reliance on this publication.

Independence and interests

Rebel Spirit Media Group works with clients in the sectors this publication covers, including in the UK gambling sector. Editorial selection is made on news value to a UK buyer, not on client interest, and we do not accept payment for coverage or for placement within the brief. Where a brief covers a company we work with, that relationship does not change what we report, and we would rather you knew about it than discovered it.

Corrections

We will correct errors of fact promptly and visibly. If something here is wrong, incomplete, or has been overtaken by events, tell us and we will fix it and say that we have. Corrections are made on the original post rather than quietly removed.

Corrections and right-of-reply requests: get in touch. We aim to respond within one working day.
