Louise Teden

Louise Teden — Lou — is an AV investment and training specialist with more than twenty years in UK television. She started at Universal McCann in 2002 and has planned and bought airtime at Vizeum, Carat and EssenceMediaCom.

At Rebel Spirit Media she works on client investment: tracking value positions across the sales houses, reconciling what was agreed against what actually ran, and making sure the year adds up.

Twenty years in TV buying

Lou joined Universal McCann as a TV graduate executive in 2002, moved to Vizeum as a planner and buyer, and by 2005 was a TV account manager at Carat. In 2008 she joined EssenceMediaCom as an Account Director in Investment, where she stayed for fifteen years.

Running an investment team is mostly about proof. She tracked client guarantees, scrutinised audit data, and made sure the targets that were promised at the start of a year were the ones actually delivered at the end of it.

Training the AV industry

From 2020 Lou was Senior Associate Director, Training and Development, within Investment. She designed and delivered the AV training for every graduate and new hire coming into the agency — 15 to 20 graduates and 10 or more new starters a year — reporting into trading heads across five business units.

She rebuilt that training from the ground up to close the gaps it had been quietly carrying, and launched a central learning hub shared across all the UK offices so the same work was not being redone in five places.

How Lou works

Patiently, and in detail. Value positions are not won in the negotiation; they are won months later in the reconciliation, when someone bothers to check line by line what was delivered against what was agreed.

She is also straightforward to ask things of, which matters more than it sounds on accounts where the awkward question is usually the important one.

Background

Lou holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Advertising (Merit) from Watford College and a BSc in Sports and Exercise Science from Leeds Beckett University.

She lives in Weymouth, runs, walks the Jurassic Coast, and has recently been learning her way around a digital camera.
